£5,000 Raised in Memory of Michael Terrill Brings Comfort to Hospital Patients and Their Families
Earlier this year, Claire and Tracey, Managing and Senior Partners at TMT Legal Services, shared the story of the wonderful care their late father, Michael Terrill, received at University Hospital Southampton. They also highlighted the challenges faced by families who wish to remain close to loved ones during difficult times.
They are incredibly proud to share the impact of a fundraising initiative held in Michael's memory, which has already made a difference to patients and families on the Elderly Care Unit (G5). Thanks to the kindness and generosity of everyone who donated via JustGiving, together with a generous contribution from TMT, an incredible £5,000 was raised.
The final total included a fun 'Guess the Bear's Name' competition, which raised £57. The giant teddy bear was kindly donated by Conveyancing Executive Sophie Eklund, helping to raise even more funds for this special cause.
While the fundraising total is something to celebrate, the true success of the appeal lies in the positive impact it is having on the lives of patients and their loved ones.
The donation has enabled the ward to purchase a range of items designed to improve comfort, wellbeing and quality of life, including televisions, radios and camp beds for relatives wishing to stay close to family members receiving care.
The team on G5 recently shared an update demonstrating just how valuable these additions have already been. One particularly touching story involved a frail couple who had been admitted to the ward together, with one partner facing a much more difficult prognosis. Thanks to the equipment funded through the appeal, they were able to spend precious time together listening to their favourite CDs and reminiscing about cherished memories.
The camp beds have also provided immediate support to families during challenging times. Within a day of being installed, one was already being used by a relative wanting to remain close to a loved one. The family expressed heartfelt gratitude for the comfort and reassurance it provided.
The fundraising has also enabled the ward to invest in further improvements, including dementia-friendly clocks, enhanced tea and coffee facilities, and more comfortable visitor seating areas, helping to create a welcoming and supportive environment for patients and visitors alike.
In a message to TMT, the ward team expressed their appreciation. G5 Ward Leader, Lee, said:
"I would like to add further thanks to yourself, the team and Michael's legacy, as your generosity has transcended the boundaries of G5 and is supporting our other areas."
Reflecting on the success of the appeal, Claire and Tracey said:
"While Dad may be gone, his impact continues to be felt every day. Through the generosity of those who knew him, and those who simply wanted to help, patients and families are receiving comfort, support and precious moments together when they need them most. For that, we are deeply grateful. Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraising and helped raise such an incredible amount in Dad's memory."
Michael's legacy continues to touch the lives of others, bringing comfort, dignity and companionship to patients and their families at a time when it matters most.
